CenterPoint Energy takes great pride in being part of the downtown Minneapolis community. It is, after all, where their roots have been planted since their very beginning.

“This is our home where we live, work and play,” CenterPoint Energy Public Relations Manager Becca Virden said. “It is also the city where our company began nearly 150 years ago.”

That’s why CenterPoint Energy re-invested in their downtown home by opening their new office space on 5th and Nicollet two years ago (pictured above)—equipped with the Minneapolis Visitor Information center on the first floor as a resource for tourists to get to know our city. It is why they are an active sponsor of major downtown events like Holidazzle and Aquatennial—including the CenterPoint Energy Torchlight Parade on Wednesday, July 19 at 8:30 p.m.—and it is why they are a mpls downtown council Skyline Partner, helping our organization create an extraordinary downtown.

Being part of the Minneapolis community is something that means a lot to CenterPoint Energy. As a company that began here in the 19th Century, they continuously strive to make a difference in our community through continual investment.

Their commitment through the Skyline Partnership with mdc reinforces their support for our downtown.

“An equally important consideration for CenterPoint Energy was the opportunity to demonstrate how much CenterPoint Energy values the importance of a strong, vibrant downtown core and the ongoing work of the mpls downtown council,” Virden said. “We at CenterPoint Energy are passionate about enhancing communities we serve. A lot of what the mpls downtown council does in the community directly reflects our values as a company. Through our partnership with them, we are able to work together and help the City of Minneapolis through collaborative efforts.”

Virden said mdc’s 2025 Plan sets a solid framework through which downtown Minneapolis continues to grow and thrive. In particular, mdc’s focus on increasing the residential population, greening and creating a consistently compelling downtown experience are all extremely important activities that create positive momentum for our city.

The mdc’s vision for downtown Minneapolis, she said, will enhance the area overall while creating a better city to call home. Virden said the Mpls Downtown Improvement District and its ambassadors are also a great asset for the downtown community, helping our city’s core stay greener, cleaner and safer.

Both the mdc and MDID’s efforts are part of what makes downtown a thriving and vibrant place, Virden said. CenterPoint Energy is proud to stay engaged in those efforts.

“CenterPoint Energy is actively involved, sitting on important and influential boards as the company contributes millions in state and local taxes annually,” Virden said. “We enjoy working with the mdc because of their leadership, collaboration, advocacy and innovation initiatives for downtown.  And supporting our partnership with the mpls downtown council is a special way that allows us to give back to their untiring efforts.”

CenterPoint Energy matches the mdc’s enthusiasm for creating a vibrant downtown through efforts like their sponsorship of Aquatennial’s CenterPoint Energy Torchlight Parade, which is coming up on July 19. They’ve been part of the parade for 17 consecutive years and its predecessor companies since the first nighttime parade began 78 years ago and love what it brings to the downtown community.

“Not only is CenterPoint Energy the title sponsor of the Torchlight Parade, the company strives to be a point of community connection around the year by living out our values of safety, integrity, accountability, initiative and respect, which is our core focus in serving the communities where we live, work and play,” Virden said. “Our employees, retirees and their families contribute hundreds of thousands of hours of volunteer time each year valued at millions and millions of dollars. We give back  to celebrate our communities and the people who live in them and feel supporting and backing important health and human services is valuable to us all. The CenterPoint Energy Torchlight Parade is one way to give back to our customers, families and community in an effort to provide safe, quality entertainment for all.”

That same commitment to the community is what CenterPoint Energy brings to its customers on a daily basis. As the state’s largest natural gas provider, they know it is valuable to offer customers peace of mind that they will receive safe, reliable, environmentally-friendly service for years to come. They manage their business innovatively, always looking to the future through evaluating, planning and executing their business models in order to remain viable for years to come.

CenterPoint Energy is a solid corporate citizen and good neighbor – supporting their communities in important ways. Downtown Minneapolis is no exception.

“Simply put, this is our home,” Virden said. “CenterPoint Energy aims to lead the nation in delivering energy, service and value and is committed to the city of Minneapolis and the vitality of downtown where it all began. CenterPoint Energy believes it is vital that its workforce and community outreach efforts reflect the diversity of our customers and communities. Minneapolis is a city of diversity and that directly reflects who we are as a company.”
