member forum: workforce development for our downtown

The mpls downtown council hosted a member forum focused on developing the Mpls workforce on April 18 at Minneapolis Community and Technical College. The event, hosted by MCTC and sponsored by the University of St. Thomas, included a networking session, lunch and a conversation focused on the continued economic vitality of Mpls.

The future of the region’s workforce requires planning and action to address the impending workforce shortage. A panel featuring the following speakers discussed emerging trends and innovative programs to build a strong workforce that directly aligns workers’ skills with employers’ needs.

  • Peter McLaughlin, Hennepin County Commissioner and co-chair, Hennepin County Workforce Leadership       Council
  • Doug Hennes, Vice President for Government Relations and Special Projects, University of St. Thomas
  • Vincent Thomas, Dean for Continuing Education and Workforce Development, Minneapolis Community and Technical College School of Business
  • Jonathan Weinhagen, President & CEO, Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce
