see downtown as a resident during free Explore Downtown Living tours Sept. 23

You know what it’s like to try and decide where you’re going to move next. Scheduling all the appointments for stopping in and viewing locations can take time and too much coordinating effort.

Wouldn’t it be nice if you could tour residential communities for free without worrying about any scheduling hassles?

Explore Downtown Living is your answer.

Come and see downtown Minneapolis and its five distinct neighborhoods on Saturday, September 23 between 10 am – 5 pm. This event is FREE and open to the public, and it offers a chance to tour 23 different residential properties (including units, roof decks, party rooms, fitness centers and more) in the Central Core, East Town, Loring Park, North Loop and Northeast areas. Simply sign up at www.exploredtliving.com and show up the morning of the event.

Complimentary parking is available in certain locations throughout downtown, and a mobile map will help you navigate from one place to the next. Plus, when you sign up, you’ll be able to enjoy promotions and deals from approximately 30 restaurants, bars, retail shops and bars in the downtown area.

It’s easy, informative and really a fun way to spend a Saturday.

“Explore Downtown Living continues to offer a free opportunity to view different areas of downtown from a resident’s point of view,” mpls downtown council and mpls downtown improvement district president & ceo Steve Cramer said. “It’s such an easy way to see as many properties and neighborhoods as you’d like, and the partner offers from different businesses make it a fun excursion through the city. We invite you to come see our downtown in a whole new way on September 23.”

Explore Downtown Living has welcomed 4,000 guests and arranged 16,000 apartment unit views in the seven tour dates since its inception in May 2015. No location will solicit you to sign a lease—they’ll only discuss those conversations with you if you’re interested in doing so. Otherwise, it’s simply a way to see the neighborhoods, residential properties, and learn more as you wish.

This year’s Explore Downtown Living event includes three new properties downtown—Encore, Maverick North Loop and 7west—as well as 20 other popular residential communities.

You will receive a Field Guide that is your access pass to all the locations—you can pick it up at the first residential property you visit on September 23 or in advance at any Whole Foods location in the Twin Cities.

“We invite anyone interested in moving downtown—whether it is Millennials starting their careers or empty nesters looking to downsize—to attend Explore Downtown Living,” said Brandi Donaldson and Jessica Milkes, co-chairs of the 2025 Plan Development Committee’s Explore Downtown Living taskforce. “The event is set up for participants to enjoy a free day downtown seeing all that the city’s core has to offer up close. Plan your trip beforehand or decide your path as you go along. You tailor your own experience.”

Downtown continues to be a place that attracts residents who are looking to be close to the action or their employers. Minneapolis’ central core now has 40,864 residents—a 28.4 percent increase since 2006.
