Trader Joe’s opens in downtown mpls’ east town neighborhood

Trader Joe’s officially opened in downtown mpls’ east town neighborhood this month, adding another grocery store to a downtown core that continues to see an annual rise in residential growth. Trader Joe’s location, located at East End Apartments (721 S. Washington Ave), is a 10,700-square foot store that is part of a complex that will also include a liquor store, Starbucks and Jimmy John’s. Trader Joe’s celebrated their grand opening on July 20.

The downtown residential population continues to rise, with 43,456 residents currently living in downtown’s five neighborhoods–Central Core, East Town, Loring Park, Northeast and North Loop.

“Trader Joe’s is a great sign that downtown’s residential population is growing as robustly as it is,” mpls downtown council president & ceo Steve Cramer told the Star Tribune. “Fifteen to 18 years ago we were willing to offer supermarkets financial incentives and we couldn’t get it done. Now you’ve got Lunds & Byerlys, Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s. It’s a sign of health and strength.”

Stop by and check out the new Trader Joe’s in East Town.
